Le 21 mai 2023, Vinicius a décidé de prendre position. Victime de 10 incidents racistes enregistrés par la Liga depuis 2021, l’attaquant du Real Madrid a été confronté à un supporter de Mestalla, qui lui a proféré des insultes et des gestes racistes. Vinicius a pointé du doigt le responsable, ce qui a entraîné l’interruption du match pendant près de neuf minutes. Malheureusement, il a ensuite été insulté par une grande partie du stade, montrant l’ampleur du problème.
Suite à cet incident, LaLiga et Valence ont travaillé ensemble pour identifier les deux fans du Che qui ont qualifié Vinicius de « singe ». Le club envisage de retirer leur abonnement à vie, tandis que l’employeur des personnes impliquées engagera des poursuites judiciaires après avoir obtenu une pièce d’identité. LaLiga examine également les images enregistrées à l’extérieur du stade, où le joueur brésilien a également été insulté, afin de prendre des mesures supplémentaires.
Ces incidents récents mettent en évidence la nécessité de poursuivre la lutte contre le racisme dans le football espagnol. En Liga, on se rappelle encore de plusieurs autres cas qui ont eu lieu par le passé et qui ont fait couler beaucoup d’encre.
